If you know anything about me, you know that I absolutely love the Spy Museum in the L’Enfant Plaza in Washington D.C.  So much so that I used it as the setting for a blog post a few months ago about highlighting the differences that the timing of photography has on the natural lighting of a particular venue. Of course, I was going to use the International Spy Museum. Where else?

So why do I love the Spy Museum for event photography so much? The list of reasons could go on and on, but I will limit it to these 4 main reasons: amazing architecture, a stunning ballroom, scenic views throughout, and their rooftop.

Let’s start with the amazing architecture. From the moment you spot the building, the architecture grabs you. It’s red, black, and chrome modern exterior beckons you to see what it is all about. Once inside, the open foyer, complete with a tree pillar, allows guests to gander at all things spy, such as the Bond Aston Martin.

Let’s glide to one of the main attractions, the ballroom. With floor to ceiling windows, the natural light is absolutely stunning. For my event planning friends, the “spy” is the limit for creating stunning environments for our clients.  Take a look at these tables with silver and blue velvet linens complemented by magnificent blue velvet curtains. Mirrored dining chairs are the perfect touch to accentuate the modern architecture and make sure the light streaming in through the windows is reflected throughout the impressive space.

Speaking of those windows, take a look at the beautiful scenic views right outside. The Spy Museum’s location is a perfect spot to catch a glimpse of the Capital Building. One of my all time favorite photos is the one of the Capitol Building with streaks of blue light from the ballroom’s drapery. Although that’s not all there is to see!

What better way to take in all the beautiful views that DC has to offer than on their rooftop? The Spy Museum’s rooftop area, complete with a bar, allows guests to see the heart of the city. One can see the National Monument, The White House, The Lincoln Memorial, and so many other of out nation’s landmarks. I just can’t get enough!
