Washington DC Engagement Session Photography Georgetown

Katie and Mike’s engagement session was supposed to happen at The Washington Harbour Ice Rink, but Georgetown was experiencing an unusually warm day in December causing the ice to melt. Luckily, we were in the nation’s capitol with endless scenic photography opportunities. So even on an uncharacteristically warm day we had an amazing engagement session in Georgetown minus the ice skating.

How and Where Did You Meet?
Katie:  “We actually met on Match. For both of us, it was our first time trying online dating. We were also both recently out of long term relationships and we were both looking to meet someone special. As optimistic as we were, I do not think either one of us anticipated meeting someone so right so quickly. We knew only a few months in that this was it. By our second month we were finishing each other’s sentences, laughing till we cried, and naming our children. I realize how cliché’ it sounds, but when it is right, you just know.”

How Long Did You Date Before Getting Engaged?
Katie and Mike:  “6 ½ months”

How and Where Did You Get Engaged?
Katie:  “We got engaged in Martha’s Vineyard. We were there on a vacation with Mike’s family. I didn’t even see it coming! Mike took me shopping for a new dress, and then took me out to dinner. He had never been to the restaurant though, and it ended up being a very loud and crowded spot. Mike was upset about it all night, and I kept telling him to chill out and stop being so high maintenance, lol.

We stuck it out, and after 3 courses and a bottle of wine, the restaurant emptied out. When I returned from a brief bathroom break, Mike was standing up next to our table. When I realized what he was about to do, I think I jumped him. I was certainly standing way too close for Mike to be able to get down on one knee. He had to say, in his ever polite manner, “Would you kindly take a step back?” He got down on one knee, and the rest was history.”
